Can't write files from Android to Mac

I have no trouble copying files from the Mac to my Android phone, but I'm not having any success copying files off my phone.
The Mac has file sharing enabled.
The specific folder has file sharing turned on.
The permissions are read/write for everyone.
What am I missing?
