webclient zip plugins can't handled french accented filename

Post by tchukp »

Hi,

I'm using WingFTP server 6.1.9 and was wondering how I can configure the webclient zip plugins to handle french accented filenames so these accented characters don't get replaced with another character, for example é (eacute) is replaced with Ù.

Thank you

Do you mean the Zip/Unzip function in the web client? There is no problem with the French accented filename, I just tested it with the latest version 6.5.9.

Hi, thank you for your quick reply !

Yes indeed it's about the zip/unzip function in the webclient however I have new results that you may help me out.

When I do the zip of a french accented filename through Chrome on my Windows 10 laptop, I have the problem but when I do the zip of that same file through Chrome on my Macbook pro laptop, it's working fine. Both Chrome are up to date. Also, I have the same problem when I do the zip of that same file through Safari on my Macbook pro laptop.

Is there a configuration that needs to be done in the browser for it to work properly ? I will look into it on my side but if you have the answer I'll take it !

Thank you

An update on my previous post.

After searching and analyzing, I found out that the problem is at the tool I've used to open the zip archive which is 7zip on Windows. Whether if I use Chrome, Edge or IE on my Windows laptop to generate the zip archive, these archive display the french filenames correctly if opened on my Macbookm but not on my Windows laptop. I did some google and it seems that 7zip is able to detect UTF-8 filenames but something but not in my case.

My question is if WingFTP is installed on a Windows server which locale is fr-CA, could this be the reason why I have the filename problem ?

Thank you

Could you send the related screenshots and filenames to us via email? Because I can't reproduce this issue on my computer.
